*Prerequisite / Co-requisite:
Senior year only.   May be repeated; two uses total, senior year only.

*Description:
Advanced study to the professional procedures and processes employed by illustrators. This course is an advanced study to traditional and contemporary processes and solutions utilized in the field of illustration. Familiarity with these tools and problem-solving methods enable the student to learn about the field of Illustration.

Additional Course Description:
Each of your assignments should involve a step-by-step creative approach. While these steps may vary from one project to another, they will usually be: Concept, Rough idea sketches, Research, Reference, Working drawings, Final drawings, and Final art.

Each class will begin with a group critique of ongoing projects. It is important that you come prepared to share your progress. You are being prepared for a career that involves communication with coworkers as well as art directors and/or editors etc.

Learning Objectives:
·      Develop your narrative imagination, style and techniques conceptual thinking skills
·      Understand the procedures and processes employed by professional illustrators.
·      Continue to search for a personal artistic identity in problem solving.      
·      Apply research in the development of a creative solution
·      Be able to explain the direction and reasoning behind your body of work.
·      Maintain a strong work ethic.







Class Time
Monday & Wednesday 9 - 12 (time may be change subject to change)

Supplies:
Bring all necessary supplies to class (drawing and painting media, laptops, etc).

Grading:
Grading is based on participation, attendance and quality of work. Presentation of assignments reflects participation and is part of the grade. Grades are not given. They are earned and recorded according to your efforts.

40%     Project #1 - Picture Book
20%     Sketch Book Journal/Research
20%     Project #2 - Promotion
10%     Project #3 - ???
10%     Attendance/ Participation
5%       Take home quiz (bonus pts)

Assignments:
There will be multiple assignments with specific steps from concept to finish.
            •         Meet your assignment deadlines.
            •         Lateness will lower your grade.
 •         If you are absent on the day something is due you are still responsible    to email me your work by 1pm that day.

Student work may be reproduced for use by the instructor.

Course Specific Policies on attendance, late work, make up work, examinations if outside normal class time, etc.:
Attendance is mandatory. One absence for the semester will be allowed; however, you are still responsible for information presented in class (See "Grading"). Lateness or skipping out early will count towards an absence and will lower your grade. Two absences, for any reason, will lower your final grade by one letter grade. You will fail this course in the event of third absence!

Incomplete’s will be granted only in extenuating circumstances. If you have a valid medical excuse or family emergency, and you've completed the bulk of course work for the semester, an incomplete is possible. You are responsible for initiating the paper work for an incomplete.

Any class related information that is missed as a result of extenuating circumstances is available through an appointment with the instructor.
